Durban North

Durban North is a large upmarket suburb situated 15 minutes north to the city of Durban and extending from Durban’s Umgeni River to La Lucia. Most of Durban North has magnificent views over the warm Indian Ocean, which is also within walking distance from many parts. There are a few exquisite Blue Flag beaches close by which are ideal for swimming, surfing and sun bathing.

The Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve in Durban North has a delightful mangrove estuary and interesting walking routes, from which you can spot a variety of bird life. The Japanese Gardens are great for spending a day out with the family and enjoying a picnic while the kids entertain themselves on the playground. The gardens feature Japanese structures laid out in a traditional style.

Durban North boasts some of the finest golf courses and the large Gateway Mall in nearby Umhlanga is a major attraction. Umhlanga Lighthouse, a well-known landmark of the area, is a popular stretch of beachfront with the locals for running and walking their dogs. The area also has its very own Virginia Airport and offers an abundance of restaurants and accommodation options.
