Enormous aerial views across the Atlantic Ocean define one of Cape Town's most desirable places to stay. Contained by an impressive amphitheatre shaped by the Twelve Apostles and Lion's Head, the upmarket suburb of Camps Bay spills down the slopes of Table Mountain towards the Atlantic Ocean.

The main road, Victoria Drive, is studded with trendy restaurants and bars lining the palm-fringed beachfront promenade. It’s a great people watching spot if you’re into checking out the rich and famous. At the end of a long summer day, locals and visitors shake off the beach sand while sipping sundowners at stylish sidewalk cafés overlooking the beach.

The wide, white sandy Camps Bay Beach is very popular with families, who come in busloads during Christmas and Easter vacations. There’s a splash pool for little ones and some convenient grassy shaded areas for picnics. Watch out for flying frisbees and volleyballs. Local surfers avoid this beach and hangout at neighbouring Glen Beach. Beware if you’re a visiting surfer, the graffiti sign says ‘locals only!’
